Janet Rae Humphrey, C-IAYT, E-RYT

Janet walked into a yoga class at the age of 58 after a lifetime of medical issues, including a lumbar fusion, six knee surgeries, fibromyalgia and three neurosurgeries, followed by life-threatening infections, severe pain, muscular weakness and scoliosis. Through her yoga practice, Janet grew stronger and more flexible, and her health improved dramatically. Yoga helped resolve her fibromyalgia and complications from numerous surgeries and improved her scoliosis significantly. Her greatest pleasure is watching her students improve their strength, flexibility, mobility, endurance, self-image, and peace of mind. Janet also uses her 20-year experience in medical research and care to bring a holistic approach to her classes.

The International Association of Yoga Therapists certified Janet as a yoga therapist in August 2017. This certification reflects over 1,000 hours of yoga training with experts from coast to coast and over 3,000 hours of teaching experience. She is also Certified in Integrative Yoga for Seniors and Yoga for Healthy Aging. She brings a wealth of knowledge to her classes, joy and healing methods. Janet is author of the book, Age Without Limits – Over 200 Chair and Standing Yoga Poses for Seniors and the Health Challenged.

  • Therapeutic Yoga

  • Held on Thursdays from 2:00 - 3:00pm in Building B

    (No classes held the week of Labor Day)


     

    Therapeutic Yoga is a gentle yoga class working on a different part of the body each week.  Requests from students are an important aspect of this class.  Poses are done on the floor, sitting on the floor, standing and at the wall.  Head, neck, shoulders, hands, core, back, hips, knees and feet are all covered during the quarter.  Bring your aches and pains and leave feeling better.

    Series of 11 classes for $110.
    (Make-ups in any of Janet's classes during the same quarter.)
    5 classes for $60
    1 class for $15


  • Stability Yoga

  • Held on Mondays from 2:00 - 3:00pm in Building B
    (No classes held the week of Labor Day)


    This class consists of 1/3 Sitting & 2/3 Standing
     
    An active and energetic class for those who want to learn yoga, return to yoga or continue yoga, but don't want to get down on the floor.  Flexibility, strength and balance are key elements of this fun class.  Poses will be done sitting in a chair, standing holding on to the seat of the chair and standing.  A variety of yoga and therapy props provide interesting ways to work towards fitness.
     
    Series of 11 classes for $110.
    (Make-ups in any of Janet's classes during the same quarter.)
    5 classes for $60
    1 class for $15

  • Chair/Balance Yoga
  •  

    Held on Wednesdays from 2:00 - 3:00pm in Building B
    (No classes held the week of Labor Day)

    This class consists of 2/3 Sitting & 1/3 Standing

    A combination of meditation, breathing, active and passive poses will bring those with medical challenges, weakness and balance issues improved strength, flexibility and balance.  Poses will be done sitting, holding on to the back of the chair and free standing for those able to do so.  A variety of yoga and therapy props provide interesting ways to work towards fitness.

    Series of 11 classes for $110
